My Nokia cellphone is over three years old, clunky, sad looking and completely worn out. I like that it functions normally even after having been drenched in rain overnight, that I can take it apart, blow dry any dampness and put it together at will. In summary, it is a good phone and has paid for itself many times over.
Lately, I have been looking for a replacement - a newer, smarter and slimmer number. Choices abound but most of them are too complicated for my limited capacity to figure out state of the art gizmos with more functions than my brain.
At the going rate, I will turn completely obsolete technology wise in twenty years from now and be need of the future-day equivalent of an e-mail machine that does not require you to have an e-mail address, a computer or internet connection. You plug in the machine and are ready to receive e-mails and photographs from people who are not technology challenged.

If I were you I would stick with the Nokia family, I've still never opened a manual. However the stuff handed out or sold by the service providers are lame compared to what you can get in other countries. So google for an unlocked nokia and you will get a few store selling some cool nokia gsm phones that you can use in desh if you need to; I made the mistake of buying a treo, one that I will never repeat again.
If you are not in a GSM network, good luck...
SFG - I succumbed and got a Motorola RAZR. Still hanging on to the old Nokia as a backup should the challenges of figuring out the new gizmo prove to be too much for me :)

The old Nokia rules! Tell me how you like the Razr..I'm not too happy with the way the ring profile changes when my Motorola clamshell phone makes contact with the inner surface of my bag. The button is too sensitive.

gg - The RAZR is nice enough with one caveat - the battery life is pathetic compared to my old Nokia. Even though its so much fancier, I still miss the old phone :(
