On the side of the street by a restaurant that had outdoor seating, a group of four high school kids had set up shop to play some sax. When we happened to pass by they were playing Sweet Dreams. They had enough swagger to make up for lack of musical perfection. People around looked on appreciatively. It was wonderful to see them make the most of the times we live in these days - online school, no sports or other activities, and a generally diminished high school experience. Instead of sitting it out at home, these three had decided to take initiative, come out and play music, entertain and make a few bucks.
As we continued our walk, we came up on a even younger musician tuning his violin. Maybe a family of musicians or close friends atleast. In the midst of the relentless sameness that the pandemic has brought, it was so heart-warming to see these youngsters make music from a whole another time to entertain us older people with music from our times.
